Empower background printing

Can someone help with this?

We operate Empower on two PC's. The first PC has a printer attached, and this printer is shared to the second PC via a LAN cable.

Our problem is that the shared printer is invisible in PC #2's Empower drop-down list for background printing.

However, normal printing on PC#2 is fine - we can still print to the shared printer using the Report Publisher. It's only background printing which doesn't work. And, the shared printer is visible from the "Printers and Faxes" folder in Windows of PC#2.

Everything is ok in the host PC (both normal printing and background printing).

How do I "find" or "add" the printer into Empower of PC#2?
Did you try Register Empower Node Printers (Start > programs > Empower) ?
This would add the printer to your list.

Thanks Ace, worked like a charm!
Sorry I spoke too soon.. :?

Now the printer appears in the drop-down list, but I still can't perform background printing. An error message "Error Connecting to Printer xxxxx" appears in the Empower error log.

Can anyone help?
This has something to do with user privileges.
If you print from Preview, you are printing as your logged on Windows Account.
If you print directly from browse project, you print as local system.
Probably this isn't allowed on your other PC.
2 possible fixes:
-Make your printer accesible for the local system of the other PC
-Run your Watersservice as an other user than System, and give that user the neccesairy privileges for printing.

Thanks Ace.

Can you elaborate further? How do I make the printer accessible to the local system of the other PC?

Or, for option 2, what is Watersservice (where can I find it)?

Thanks again, this is driving me crazy!
How do I make the printer accessible to the local system of the other PC?
I'm not quit sure, but I think you need to give "Everyone" the permission to print in the security tab of your printer.
Or, for option 2, what is Watersservice (where can I find it)?
Watersservice can be found under: right-click My Computer > manage > Services and applications > Services
There you can find the Watersservice. You can change the Run As in the properties.
Make sure the user you fill in here has access to the PC where the printer is attached to.
