Hey guys,

I am trying to develop a method to analyse PAHs and the related transformation products such as 9,10-phenanthrenedione, phenol, benzoic acid, naphthalene, phthalic anhydride using a LC-MS.
At this stage, i hardly find journal articles for PAH measurement using LC-MS.

To be very honest, this would be my first time using LC-MS. I am still looking for information about what sort of column is more suitable for analysing PAHs. Last time i only used GC-FID for the quantification of few types of PAHs (namely phenanthrene and fluoranthene) from the peaks and identified the PAHs from external standard solutions.

Now i am interested with the intermediate or transformation products that may present in the solution too. However, i realise one problem, i.e. most PAH compounds are non-polar but the transformation products can be polar and/or acidic. Can we detect both the PAHs and the transformation products using the same column in the LCMS?

Hope to hear from you soon.
Thank you.
