RI Detector Energy

Hi, all -

We recently saw the energy on our Shimadzu RI detector slowly ramp up and max out at 99999. This was coupled with periodic poor chromatography (really crazy-shaped peaks and baseline spikes) that seemed indicative of detector problems.

We changed the lamp, and the energy on the new lamp is slowly creeping up. What is the expected equilibration time for a new lamp in an RI? A day? Does anyone have any thoughts as to what else may be causing this?

Thank you.

Hi, all -

Our energy eventually leveled off after about 18 hours. The new lamp solved our problems. It is apparent that we had a bad lamp and that a day or so is required to re-equilibrate.
