Poros (perfusion) columns

Hello
I want to ask if anyone has had success with Poros columns (which make use of perfusion type particles).
I remember reading somewhere (maybe it was here on chromforum) that while the idea seemed to make sense, it didn't work that well in practise because most of the flow went around the particles and not through them. However, it seems a lot of people are using these columns.
So I am wondering: Are they used for only certain niche applications, or are they truly beneficial for large molecule work.
Any comments are appreciated.
