I set up a GC-FID method for qualitative analysis of waxes. My point of interest is to determine if a wax is used on (tropical) fruits and to see what type of wax it is by comparing a GC-FID pattern with reference chromatograms. The method is similar to one of another laboratory that does the same analysis and a method described in an Agilent application note.
For the analysis I use an Agilent VF5ht-Ultimetal column, because high oven temperatures are needed (up to 420° C).

So far we are able to show if Bees wax or Carnauba wax is used, but recently we found another type of wax, probably Montan wax that to me looks to have a pattern with the same peaks as Carnauba wax, but with other peaks added.
An overlay-chromatogram of the (Montan?) wax I found on a sample and a Carnauba wax-standard shows retention times that are equal.

Has anyone experience with these types of waxes? And how can I be sure that no Carnauba wax is in my sample, although I see all peaks in my chromatogram?
