MS 5972 tuning

Hi!
We can not tune our MS 5972. I ran DFTPP sandard and mixture of method 625 standards. Data was collected and TICs are good. But when I try to retrieve the ions' scans for particular compounds it gives just set of ions with higher abundonces of lighter ions going down to higher masses. While tuning MS it could not achieve constant peaks width, or stopped tunig due to maximum of gain value, and there were not profiles of peaks, just some curves and noises. The calibration vial was not empty, and valve is working (we tried valve from another MS). By the way, the response of TCI is very high. It looks like the ion filter is not workig. Any idas?
Thank you.

When was the last time you cleaned the source?

Corrupt tune file? We have 4 5973's which sometime corrupt the tune files. Happens most often if we continually over write the file. In our case there are "un touched " files in a startup folder. I can't remember the steps for re setting a file. Call Agilent.

It was done just before tuning MS.

Are you out of tuning solution?

No, tuning solution is in the vial. and valve works.

if there are two filaments.. have your tried with both and still the same thing occurs?

yes, there is the same with any of filaments.

the last thing I can think of off hand is that there could be a lose wire or one connected backward. Let me know what you find out.

You have a lens issue - sounds like you're dropping one of them out (probably the drawout). Could be a loose connection, or mis-assembled lens stack since you just cleaned it. Make sure your electrical connections are correct, and that the lenses are in the right orientation since it's possible to assemble them backwards. There is a picture in the operator's manual of how to correctly assemble the ion source.
