Agilent 7820 with valco valve

Hi,
I'm interested in a Agilent 7820 GC with two channels:
FID for detection of low molecular hydrocarbons and TCD for detection of N2, CO, CO2, O2, CH4.
The main issue is the sample amount:between 100 and 200 ul.
I found a Valco GSV with loops of 25, 50, 100 ul and now the question is: would this valve fit into the agilent GC?
Thanks,

Nadia

Nadia,

the valve that was used in 5890 and 6890 was a Valco valve. The actuator used was not a Valco unit.

I do not know what valve the 7820 uses.

I would contact AGILENT or read your manuals carefully for that information.

best wishes,

Rod

Nadia,

You can use any Valco loop on the Agilent valves. For that matter, you can make your own loop and with calibration, the loop volume will probably not enter into the picture (with some exceptions.) Valco has a table that ties internal volume and length to sample volume in their catalog that you can use to cut an appropriate loop size.

The other, implied, part of your question is whether you can use a Valco valve (actuator and valve) on an Agilent GC. Many people do this including most of the GC's I build. There are two tricky parts to this. The first is that you have to wire in a solenoid valve (if your GC does not already have them) that will drive the Valco valve. You could buy the Agilent solenoid kit to avoid this if you wanted. The second is squeezing the valve into the GC since the Agilent valve is flatter than the Valco valve. This is not all that challenging if you are mechanically adept. So, in short, yes, you can plumb a Valco valve into an Agilent GC.
