Hi colleagues,
I'm new to this forum. Lot of good discussions are happening in this forum. I want to pose one question to get more clarity. Can any one help me to find out some resources/literature of method of analysis of residual esters in pharmaceutical drugs. The level expected is around 1 µg/g based on the drug daily dosage.
I appreciate the comments in advance.
Warm Regards

Are you discussing small molecular weight esters, like methyl or ethyl acetate, formates?

Or are you referring to large molecule esters where the esterified acidic functional group is a minor component?

One might be done by headspace analysis and the other might require a thin film moderate polarity phase capillary column.

A search on Chem Abstracts might be helpful.

While desiring a little clarity your question is quite cloudy concerning your goal, at least, it is to me.

Can you give a little specificity to the esters you wish to discuss?

best wishes,

Rod

Thanks, Rod, for your reply. I meant small molecules where testing of sulphonic esters of methyl, ethyl, isopropyl groups is essential. These can be formed when sulphonic acids reacts with the solvents like methanol, ethanol & IPA being used in the mfg. process. As these sulphonic esters are classified as genotoxic, the residual content in the parent drug is quite challenging.
