Using 5890/5970 with 82357B GPIB-USB cable?

Hi everyone,

Has anyone been successful in using Agilent's 82357B GPIB-USB cable with a 5890/5970 setup? With a PC running Win XP and IO Libraries v16, ChemStation (A.03.00) brings up with GC with no problems at all, but I haven't been able to bring up the MS.

With the 5970 added to the instrument configuration, ChemStation hangs at the black "synchronizing" screen at startup. Without the 5970, ChemStation brings up the GC and seems to work normally... but of course, without the MS, there isn't much point!

The 82357B cable is set up in IO Libraries according to directions I've seen elsewhere (i.e. using the name "hp82341" and GPIB address of 30), which I suppose is why the GC works. I also know that the MS has SmartCard II installed.

Any ideas? I know the above is not a "supported" configuration (I wouldn't want to support hardware this old either!), but that doesn't mean someone hasn't figured out how to make it work anyway. I'm hoping that is the case this time... if you can help, please reply... and thanks!

Quayce

Hey, sorry to be no help, but I'm running on a problem similar to yours, except I'm running the GC directly with an HPIB cable, but I cant seem to configure it. I was just wondering what configuration did you use? and if you got it working

I am not familiar with this setup but wondered whether the MS needs a GPIB address configured.
I am curious why did you go the USB route rather than get a GPIB card

Hello Quayce,
Did you solve the problem? Do you want to try a newer software?

Regards,
Hamid

Do you have a SmartCardII in your MS? Also, the version of Chemstation you have is for Windows 95.
