Setting up a NPD on HP5890

Discussions about GC and other "gas phase" separation techniques.

Hello,

A researcher wishes to analyse Amphetamine using the NPD on a HP5890.

I have used the FID on HP5890's countless times, though never the NPD - so a few questions.

Is the column set up identical to a FID? ( i.e. push the column into the detector fully, then withdraw 1-2mm)

Typical NPD temperature ?

Optimum Bead power level ?

Or are there any suitable links you can recommend?

Thanks in advance

Lee
4footsnake,

Here again, I would recommend getting a hold of DET and seeing if they can help you set this up. In the past they have put out publications on various GC set ups and they can probably help you out here.
Web site is det-gc.com.

Not affiliated with them by the way.....

Best regards,

AICMM
