Dionex Column = Dionex System??

I have heard that Dionex will not sell a column to you UNLESS you have a Dionex system.
Is this true? I have never heard of such a thing, and my previous company DID use Dionex columns and DID NOT have a Dionex system, but maybe this is a new policy?
If anyone can shed a little light ...
Thanks!

I buy Dionex columns and use them on my Agilent LCs. I've never had an issue with anyone even asking what system I was going to run them on. But, those are silica RP columns, not IC columns. If it's a new policy, it's new to within about 3 months ago, which is the last time I bought a column from them.
I do wonder if Dionex will not warrant performance of their IC columns or provide support if it is installed on a system other then one of theirs, like how Waters doesn't support the use of its Acquity UPLC columns with a system other than an Acquity UPLC.

I think that was an old policy-I had heard of it too. Definitely no longer a policy. I had no trouble buying Dionex ion chromatography columns and using them on a different vendor's system.

Thanks, all. I emailed the company, and they told me that they will sell the IC columns to anyone, but if they are run on a non-Dionex system, the warranty is voided.

WHOOPS!
Turns out there are certain columns that they WON'T sell unless you own Dionex equipment. Of course, it's the column that I want to buy.
I'm beginning to understand the frustration I've heard from colleagues regarding their dealings with Dionex.

Just out of curiosity, can you say which column Dionex won't sell to you?

The CarboPac SA10 is available only to those labs who own a Dionex system.
They told me there are others, too, but I didn't ask which ones.

H_H did you ever lay your hands on the Dionex Column? If you did where?

Turning down business from willing customers... things like this amaze me, whatever happened to good business sense or just sense in general!
If they still refuse to sell you it you could try calling e.g. phenomenex etc as they might be able to source it from dionex for you as surely dionex wont insist on phenomenex having a dionex system in order to sell their columns for them...

Now that Dionex is Thermo I would bet that you can call your Thermo column rep and buy
it through them.

Dionex is trying to monopolize certain assays and push people to buy equipment and columns. They obviously calculated what makes more sense in terms of making money 9as any "for profit" organization")...and I cannot blame them.

I think the main thing that they don't sell except to system owners is the membrane supressor. That is key to their success in IC.
