1100 LC/MS (Ion Trap) Configuration Problems

Hi all, I posted this in the Data Systems forum but I feel like this might be a better place to ask about it...

I am having some trouble adding a couple of modules (a column compartment and a DAD) to our LC/MS.

All connections are with Cat. 5/5e/6 cables. The computer connects to a switch. The switch connects to a JetDirect Card in 1100 binary pump. Pump connects to ALS with CAN cables. Switch also connects to 6300 Ion trap. IP addresses are handled by the BootP program (JetDirect card: 192.168.254.1; MSD: 192.168.154.10; 1100 Stack: 192.168.254.1).

I thought that I could add a colcomp and a DAD to the 1100 stack with CAN cables and add the modules, but on startup, it only recognizes a maximum of 3 out of 4. Moving the cables around enables me to decide which 3 it recognizes, but I can't seem to get that fourth module recognized!

Firstly, does the setup (the connections going to the JetDirect card and the MSD through the switch) sound typical?

Secondly, any idea why I can't get more than 3/4 modules recognized in Chemstation?

Thanks very much for your time. Any responses or ideas are welcome.

K.

Solved. I read in a Chemstation Manual that when a DAD is present and LAN communication is used, the connection with the Chemstation must be through the DAD. So I moved the JetDirect card from the pump to the DAD and presto! All modules were present and accounted for. I'm a happy guy.
