Waters XEVO G2 VS Agilent 6530 QToF

Can anybody give me an idea of the comparative strengths and weaknesses of these two instruments for LC work?

We will need to look at both small and large molecules for different projects...

What about if we throw in a SYNAPT G2 in to the mix (with or without either Step Wave or ion mobility)?

One nice thing about the XEVO is that we could also hook a GC into it using Atmospheric Chemical Ionization and get TOF data, as well as do some neat solids and liquid by APCI.

The SYNAPT, with the right options, allows one to do MALDI for non chromatographic work as well as GG and LC.

Please consider the Bruker systems too, the new Impact is very good. As posted elsewhere , more detail re your samples rather than X vs Y is helpful. ETD for intact proteins ? Get some samples run by anyone who can offer a good solution for your application otherwise you could end up with a great instrument but for someone else's sample type not yours !

go with an Orbitrap and all your problems will be solved. No Q-Tof can compete with an Orbitrap.

I started on this forum as CE Instruments as I was a director of CE Instruments UK Ltd. The Carlo Erba name does not belong to Thermo and they cannot use it. I was with Fisons/Thermo from 91 to 02 and CE from 02 to 11.

The lady asked for a comparison of two Q Tofs, I offered a third alternative

Karen01 - you really need to get in and demo these instruments (and the orbitrap and bruker systems if you're interested) for your specific applications. To the best of my knowledge both are very good instruments.

everybody knows that Orbitrap systems can not compete with Q-Tof in terms of speed...but they have speed enough to work in fast HPLC mode at maximum resolution. The new Q-Exactive has 140k resolution, an the cost is similar to a Xevo G2 and Agilent 6530..
