How long can a GPIB cable be and still function properly? Are there limitations?

Good question. HP originally had three different lengths, designated A, B, and C. I think A was about 1 meter, B 2m, and C 3m. Or the other way around. I think you can just try it with 2 connected for additional length.

another aspect also is the amount of connected cables together
i know that for USB, not more than 5 connections should be made in serial for proper power and com transfer

Hi,
I have used 2 X 5 m cable in series without problems.
For longer distances, you can use costly fiber optical extenders.
