can any one recommend a good supplier to purchase hplc grade solutions and that costs less?
Is there a way to obtain hplc grade solution in the lab - i.e. doing something to distilled water? sorry for my ignorance

The best way to get HLPC grade water or better in the lab is to purchase a bench-top size DI (deionized) water system. We used to have a DirectQ system from Millipore that achieved 24 Mohm resistivity with <5ppb TOC. It also comes with an inline UV lamp and it's very small. The downside to these is the initial cost which is in the thousands of dollars. If you are just doing small scale experiments and need HPLC grade water I would look to VWR (www.vwrsp.com) or ThermoFisher (www.fishersci.com) and look for EMD brand HPLC Water. They tend to be the least expensive brand but you can compare it to other brands as well. HPLC Water is UV analyzed showing that it has no or minimal backgound in at specific wavelengths in the UV spectrum (i.e., it is low in organics with a UV absorption).

Where are you located? It would be a help to know what market you have to deal with in order to better advise you.

Just a comment: hplc grade water will grow hplc-grade green things with fins and eyes if you leave it long enough. If you are a small lab with low usage, it's probably better to use ordinary filtered distilled water, changed regularly, than to buy a 2.5L bottle of the best water ever, and keep it in use for a year.
