Connecting Jasco RI Detector via HP 35900e to Agilent 1100

Hello,

I had a Jasco RID connected through analog wires to an HP 35900e Multichannel Interface which was then connected by HPIB to my DAD which was then subsequently connect to our HP Kayak computer running Windows NT. The fan in both the autosampler and the autosampler cooler went out recently. I have moved the Jasco RID and HP35900e Interface to another Agilent 1100 HPLC but am not quite sure how to get them connected.

The computer on the "new" HPLC is modern (relative to the Kayak) running Windows XP and is connected to the DAD via a LAN cable. The DAD then interfaces with the rest of the HPLC. I want to hook my RID and Interface up to this unit but the Interface does not have a LAN connection.

Is it possible for me to connect the interface directly to the computer using an RS232 and how would this effect the LAN set up for the rest of the HPLC? Or, could I connect the Interface to the DAD using an HPIB cable?

I did briefly try both set ups but was unable to communicate with the Interface. I tried configuring but got only errors. Is there a better way to connect things (I have extremely limited time so I could run to the store but cannot wait for parts to come by mail)? Do I need to update software or install drivers to be able to communicate?

Any help would be greatly appreciated!
Yes, you can interface the 35900E to an Agilent system to run an analog detector, we do that here routinely. But on the one system that has that and LAN interface, that's beyond my computer capabilities, sorry. That module would have a separate LAN code, I believe.
Every 35900 I have seen does have a LAN connection. You need a second LAN connection on your computer so will probably need to add
this card. You can buy one at pretty much any consumer electronics store for cheap. Once you have installed the board and connect
the 35900 to it you need to set it up in the Agilent utility which depends upon your chemstation version. Older chemstation sets up in
the bootP manager.
