7673 Gray Syringe Stopper Not Functioning

Hey guys,

In our 7673 GC/SFC autosampler tower there is a bent tan piece of plastic that stops a gray piece of plastic with teeth marks that control how far the plunger is pulled up. I am getting a fault because it seems this arm no longer moves in or out. There is a little black motor with a rod surrounded by a spring that controls this arm. This motor i think has stopped working or something is telling it not to move.

At first i thought the fault was due to an old syringe that was stuck, i replaced it with a new 5 uL syringe and no change. I took the tower through the diagnostic run and everything seemed to run ok. I opened up the door to the tower and manually configured the injector how i want it. 1 uL injection, 1 inj per vial, fast, 2 washes, on column. However, the software method should be in control of that right? so all the switch positions don't matter...

I am using HP enviroquant software. It is a really old version b0.1 i think.
Is there anyway to fix or replace this motor? I have a second GC with S/SL injection and a 7673 auto sampler but it isn't a GC/SFC. Could I use this one on my other GC (on column)?

Thanks,

Hi

Love the description, sounds like the solenoid lever arm has failed.
You say you tried diagnostics ( there is a .pdf online that can show this procedure ), did you get 4 flashes to show an injector plunger error.

If it is the solenoid you may be to pick one up from a 3rd party company or failing that buy a second hand one, they are not particular expensive.
My website is on my profile, email me and ill check to see if I have any available.

Yes the software controls the autosampler assuming it is configured in the software.

Lastly yes the second 7673 should work, I believe all 7673s are compatable with one another....someone correct me if I am wrong please.

Hello
You do not move the plunger syringe or syringe itself?
There's two motors - a small collector (5V) moves the tape from the plunger, and a great stepping through V-belt drive moves the rod holder on the syringe.

Yes the red light flashes 4 times. I tried to describe as if someone was looking at the tower. I don't know what to call it haha. But i think it is the solenoid that has gone out. The syringe moves up and down fine. The plunger pulls up fine. But it doesn't stop and faults. I found a replacement board for it but its $500...

Its definitely not the v-belt drive, that one works fine in steps and continuously in the diagnostic mode. I don't understand what "moves the tape from the plunger" means. But if that is the motor that pulls the plunger up then that works fine as well.

I was wrong in assuming it was a motor, it looks like a motor wound with black electrical tape, but it must be a solenoid because it just clicks spring rod back and forth to stop the plunger pulling up so it knows where 1uL 2uL is etc...

LC bob wi ill ehck out your website thanks.
