Hello,

I have installed the MSD ChemStation D.01.00 in my computer. As I have Windows 7, I can not install this directly in Win7 so I have installed Virtual Machine with Windows XP and then have installed the MSD ChemStation. it functions ok, but when I want to see files other than MS files, I cannot see them. The fact is that I have a 6890 with FID, TCD and MSD. But I cannot see the files generated by FID detector. I can see only the MS files. Well I can see naturally in the lab. But when I come back to my house I want to see the files in my house computer. Can somebody help me with this problem? Well other problem is that when I want to see the Instrument Control with the GC Detectors, I have problems too. Only with MS I have no problems.

Thank you for your help.

Regards,

Adolfo Alvarez

You will more than likely have to upgrade to an E revision of software to run Windows 7.

Hello,
you haven't by chance de-selected those chromatograms?
if you goto to FILE -> Signal Selection, then you can see if chemstation has recognised that there are
files generated by the detectors. if so, then click on the check boxes to view the chromatograms

Alternatively, Copy a data directory, and delete out all the files except for the Data.ms and *.ch files.
get chemstation to open up the new data directory, and it should automatically scan for all types of
data, and generate an new pre-post.ini file recognising all the files.

If the above fails, then repeat the above, this time delete the data.ms file, leaving only the two *.ch files,
and check with chemstation.

and if that doesn't work maybe try a different VMware, eg Virtualbox or look up Wiki for others (assuming you have a 64 bit processor).

Hello chemstation,
Thank you for your answer. Well I have installed Virtualbox 4.0.10. it functions very well with Chemstation A.10.02. But with MSD ChemStation D.10.01 I have some problems.
Well I have checked in File but the option "Select signals.." is dimmed and cannot be accesed. Do you know why is dimmed?
Also have tried deleting the other files and creating a new data file only with the *.chr file, but had not success. At the lab I can see the files but here no. What else to do?
Thank you

Hi Adolfo,
The fact that the signal check boxes are dimmed, means that Chemstation does not recognise that there are GC detector signals with the MS data, which of course is the problem.

Is your Home computer running a 64 bit processor?, and did you install the 64 bit Virtual box?, if you installed the 64 bit Virtual box, maybe trying installing the 32 bit version, and see if that helps?

Alternatively, you can install a second Hard Disk Drive (HDD) in your home PC, and install WinXP on that, using the computers bios to boot from the second HDD, or if it is a laptop, then partitioning the Drive to make a second boot partition, and install to that. n.b. Win XP has a different bootloader to Windows 7, so you have to have the windows 7 installation CD to reload the Windows 7 bootloader to still be able to use Windows 7.

otherwise, Sorry :(
