MS5972 Help

I have a 5972 mass spec attached to a 5890 GC doing semi-volatile analysis. The instrument was working fine last week until I vented it and turned it off to change the column. When I pumped it down, I ran a DFTPP tune to see how everything looked. Pentachlorophenol, benzidine, and DDT were at the correct levels, but DFTPP was almost gone. The air and water check were good. I noticed that there was a slight buring smell coming from the GC (only when the GC ran), but I thought I was dust in the oven. I figured I would let it pump down overnight to stabilize. The next day, the MS was completely shut down, the on/off breaker had fried and the main electronincs board was toast. I replaced the breaked and got a new board and it tuned great. No air or water. I ran three test DFTPP tunes, with the same results as before, DFTPP very low in comparison to the other compounds. The values for the others were great. However, on the last run I noticed the buring smell again (only while the GC was running). Does anyone have any suggestions? Agilent will not do phone support for this MS anymore.

What's the MS temp in the water/air check report? I'm thinking the interface is the source of the problem.

I meant to say interface heater caused the problem.

I thought it was the interface heater at first. However, I found out that the GC oven heater coil was drawing too much current. This probably caused the MS circuitry to blow (same breaker) and the burning smell from the GC. Thanks for responding.
