Need some guidance about connecting Agilent 6890 to Dionex Chromeleon 6.8.
Would it be best to go the LAN or UCI approach?
Depending on which approach, I would like to talk to someone about hardware specifics in the GC and the data system computer.

why a UCI?
6890 normally connects to CM by LAN without problem and signal are sents by it to the PC
you do not have a LAN card in the GC?
even if yes you can get one by agilent, it is for sure better then to go with a setting of RS232 and UCI in my view

Yes, LAN is a better way to go -- it allows direct acquisition of the data without having to process through the A/D converters of the UCI, so you eliminate some conversions and their consequent impacts to signal quality. Also, the LAN approach should have a lower total cost.
Detailed instructions for setting up the GC and the connection are provided in the Chromeleon 6.8 on-line Help -- just search on "6890" and you'll find dozens of topics that should answer all your questions.

If you have a 6890N, you will have LAN built into the GC already.

Hi,
As already pointed out: If 6890N then LAN is already built in, but even some older 6890 might have LAN. If not, even if a Agilent LAN card to 6890 is somewhat more expensive than a NI GPIB, it is still a better solution (unless you got a GPIB card laying around). And it is better and cheaper than using a UCI.

You should search the index in the Chromeleon Help from the CM software. Here, the Lan option is discussed. If you wish to use a UCI 50/100, you will have a basic analogue and inject trigger signal plus the cost of the UCI.
