Hi guys,
wonder if you could help us we've got a Dionex system up and running and an ELSD detector hooked up. We are getting no salt peaks (from a 1% NaCl sample matrix with 1000ppm confidential sample).

At first we thought it was the column so we hooked it up to an Agilent 1100 with a CAD detector and it worked fine and gave the expected chromotography.

We then hooked up the detector on the dionex directly to the ELSD detector bypassing the column and it gave the expected chromotography!

We've done this more than once and checked to see we're not missing something but we're at a loss as to why we're getting nothing but baseline noise on the dionex. Very odd - any suggestions for us?

Cheers,
Lynsay
It's a pain to do, but I would swap the detectors and see if the problem follows the detector or stays with the sysrem.

what is the ELSD type?
is it the PL/Varian (now Agilent)?
is it connected directly to Chromeleon and controled by chromeleon?
or are you simply getting the signal using a A/D box?
thanks for replying all, its an alltech 3300 ELSD, its connected to the dionex and the chromeleon pc I believe yes, no A/D box involved. Its very odd and we've tried swopping the detectors and they both work on our agilent 1100, but the ELSD is misbehaving on the dionex only. Its probably something really simple we're missing like a connector in the wrong place, think myself and the manual are going to become new best friends lol!
