hi,
i am doing a research about bitter melon extract. can i make bitter melon extract which contain 80% of the compound that i want as a hplc standard?

Thanks!
Hi
Only if its will be standartisated by specifical compound .Using the methods of uniquely determining the amount standartisated component in absolute units. Example Weight (mg / g) of the substance , titrated.

You should also think about the availability of this standaty for other, primarily regulatory authorities. I do not know from what country are you from, we officially need to make a similar standard in the State Register.*

This isn't an easy standard to find. We supply thousands of certified chemical reference standards, some for the food and pharmaceutical industry. Unfortunately we don't have that standard, (I searched our database at http://www.greyhoundchrom.com I did find an interesting article http://www.rsc.org/chemistryworld/News/ ... 040802.asp from the Royal Society of Chemistry, I hope you find it useful.
Please try to contact http://phytochem-standards.de/en-pn.html and ask Mr. Hans Rausch about your inquiry. Give him my regards. They are producing official reference standards for most natural compounds and have an excellent knowledge about plants, drugs and phytopharmaceuticals. Good luck

Give him my regards also. :D Acquainted through a third party under the EDQM
It depends on what you need. If you just compare batches, different preparation and so on and don't need absolute numbers your approach is o.k.. If you want to identify single compounds solely by HPLC you would need identity standards.
When regulatory agencies are going to be involved, a real standard is necessary. And yes, russian authorities require standard substances -however, so far they never wanted a lab-to-lab.
