What's up guys

I purify a lot of cytokines expressed in E. Coli for a production lab and I had a question about cleaning the IEX resins.

I'm getting brown crude at the top of my resin when I do large scale batches. My impression is that this is lipid contamination.

How do I get rid of it? I don't want to throw out my resin

A sample prep step in which your sample is passed over glass might help. Glass tends to adsorb lipids (but also some proteins, so be careful). You could pack a large column with glass wool, or very small glass beads, and possibly even use it in-line as a sort of guard column.

That could be good preventative care, but I'm wondering if there is a way to save my resin that has already been contaminated. I pipette the brown resin off and save it, but I can't clean it enough with 1M NaOH or 20% EtOH to get the color back...

Is there another solvent or trick I could use?
