HP 5890 II, fully uninstall FID, software advice

I would like to completely remove the FID and use the outlet for a transfer line. I removed everything according to the service manual including the detector PCB (circuit board) but when I turned it back on the detector heating element was still getting hot. I had thought the GC would detect the removal and respond accordingly but it isn't. Is it enough to disconnect the block heater and sensor as well or are there other issues I should be aware of? The service and operating manuals I have do not describe a full detector uninstall or swap procedure.

Also, what would be the best software to use ultimately? The used unit came with a Dell PC (Win2000) with ChemStation Rev. A.10.02 but it constantly locks up. Would the latest version of ChemStation running on a newer PC be a good idea?

Many thanks for any advice.

NewChromatist,

Yes, you need to remove the heater and RTD from the connectors on the motherboard to finish the job. Otherwise the GC will still think the "detector" is present (at least from the heater perspective.) Removing these should finish the job.

Best regards,

Is the screen saver turned off?

Version A10.02 will work with XP pro. I suggest you try that first. What HPIB card have you got in the PC?
