GC/MS HP5971 Error

I've been having a problem with our ancient GC/MS lately. In the middle of a run, it will stop collecting data while the GC continues. After the run I get a No Response, can not bring MS online. I then reboot the computer and MS and everything is fine until the next day. Any ideas ? Thanks Brian

What method collecting (safety) of MS analysis data ?
How many computers - One (Gc+MS) or two ( 1-GC, 2-MS)?
May be restarted computer?

How many analysis time is given for MS? This is a stupid question, but from stupid reasons may be many obscure problems .

It looks like a communication problem between the computer and the instrument.
Is this problem reproducible or it happens randomly?

Maybe check if the fan of the computer is still working or if the hard disk needs replacement or defragmentation.

A long shot - check that there is no sleep or hibernate function set on the computer.

If you are using a screensaver on your instrument controller PC, this will cause the instrument to stop collecting data. If you are running a 5971 with the original software, screensavers are a no-no.
