Error closing down online Chemstation during a run

Hello,

We've started getting an error on Chemstation online that shuts it down during a run (between injections). Has anyone seen this, or can anyone help?

Chemstation B04.01 SP1

Windows XP Professional 2002 SP3
Pentium 4CPU
3.40GHz
74Gb free on Hard drive

The error:
The instruction at 0x00000000 referenced memory at 0x00000000 the memory could not be read. Click to terminate program.

We saw this error in the past on another system, where someone had installed an automatic windows backup program. The error went away after I uninstalled the backup program.

We've been using this computer with Chemstation for several months now, but the error just started. Noone has installed any automatic backup software. And, I don't see any obvious program names that would say that it had the software on it.

Any ideas?

Thank you,
Lisa

Hi
Many ideas

Diagnosis. Data error
1) DIMM memory =>bad.
2) Loss of data to the swap file on reboot. The hard disk is lost the way to a windows system instruction ( bar code).

Recipe Reinstall Windows

Had a similar problem on my home system several years ago. It gradually increased in frequency. Re-installing Windows XP helped for a while, but the problem came back. This was a "Frankenputer" (reassembled from bits and pieces of cadavers); I ended up replacing it with a new computer (twice the speed, twice the memory, and four times the hard drive size) for not much more than it would have cost to get the obsolescent RAM chips for the old one -- not even counting the value of my time.

If you have a similar (spare) computer, you might try swapping the RAM; if the problem persists, try moving the hard drive from this system into the spare. If the problem follows the hard drive, then it's a software conflict *somewhere*, and it will be trial-and-error disabling other programs and services until you find the culprit :( . If the old hard drive works OK in the spare computer, then you have solved the problem (for now, anyway!) and can scrap the bad one.

Thanks for this.
I will go through the system first and turn off all non-necessary programs. See if that helps.

Agilent's reply was that our hard drive was full. Nope, we have 70Gb free on the hard drive.

How are folks dealing with the lack of XP available on new computers? We've had problems finding anything but refurbished computers with XP. At this point, we aren't willing to upgrade to a new Chemstation in order to run with Windows 7.

Thanks

Its joke (humor) but in any joke is small part joke (humor).

1) Need Boot-up system CD or DVD, and Chemstation CD . Start which CD , copy data (work files) in USB flash or drive and reibnstall system/programms/data.
2) I understand by your firm have a system administrator. It is his job and his responsibility. Let them work , nefig "demons chasing" .

There are a fair number of XP machines coming on the refurb market as leases expire. If you're in the US, Dell Financial Services (http://www.dfsdirectsales.com/) has a lot of those around $200. At that price, get 2 and have one as a spare.
