I have an incredibly slow separation (40 minutes) on an ICS2100 with RFIC KOH that links to an MS detector. Of my 40 minutes, only 15 are important analytically. I'm using the 10 port valve on an ICS2100 to divert the column effluent to the MS during these and out to waste at other times. I have an AXP that provides some flow to the MS during the run when data isn't being collected.

I'd like to make better use of the valve and pair another ICS1000 system with this one run two columns, linked via the 10 port valve to share the detector. My thought is also to use the main eluent stream of the ICS2100 for use in both columns but use the pump from the ICS1000 to run regenerant through the 2nd column.

I know Dionex has a switching option very similar to this in some of their higher end systems.

I can figure out the plumbing and programming, but my big question is:

can I use the 2nd RFIC port of the ICS2100 to control a second KOH cartridge independently of the main cartridge. I understand I may need to use a CR-TC controller separate from the integrated one of the 2100. I'm doubtful that the cartridges can be controlled independently, but I don't have funding for a new system so need to make do with the parts of have plus a small budget (<$3000) for consumables.

Has anyone else tried a similar setup?
