Please advice on trace GC analysis of 4-chloro-1-butanol.

This should be an easy analysis assuming the matrix is not a nightmare.

Water or alkane soluble.

Carbowax or medium polarity phase column. FID will see low levels.

No dervitization is required, but acetate (or TFA) ester can be performed for extremely low levels using an ECD detector.

It is volatile enough for headspace analysis.

What in particular would you like to know other than a 500 page book of instructions? :) :lol:

A comment and a question.

Comment: As a C4, FID should do pretty well. Probably not a good candidate for PID, possibly AID for improved detection. Without derivitization, not a good candidate for ECD (only one chlorine) but maybe a Hall (yech!)

Question: Rod, would acetate add to sensitivity to ECD or was that reference to TFA, I'm curious?

On the Russian chemical forums on such issues are not taken to respond - too little data.
:( No concentation, sample solvent , purpose the analisis.
Understand, may be a trade secret. But we do not have to guess for You. 8)
