Help with appropriate chromatograph

Discussions about GC and other "gas phase" separation techniques.

For all of you chromatography experts out there I will explain my problem below, ANY help you can provide will be of great use.

Firstly I am needing to test petrol with two stroke in it.
I would also like to get measurements on oxygenates, methanol and ethanol

Can anyone tell me if either of these two pieces of equipment will accomplish this?
Perkin Elmer Model 9000
Hewlett Packard 5880A

ANY HELP WILL BE GREAT

Thank you for your time!

For a start both these machines are Gas Chromatographs so posting in the correct forum might help.
Good judgment comes from bad experience, and a lot of that comes from bad judgment.
akribis2,

I am not afraid of old GC's but these are really, really old GC's. Could you at least find a 5890 or Autosystem to work with? Having said that, the question you ask also requires that you know some other things, such as what detectors you are looking to use (FID almost a requirement) and how you intend to inject samples (since this can dictate the injection system.) Furthermore, in regards to your oxygenates requirements, you need to know what other interferences are likely to be present since these may require that you valve the system for selectivity. Things can get complicated relatively quickly and you are asking about very old systems that could be very hard to correctly fit out.

Best regards,

Stefan,

These are indeed two classic gas chromatographs.

The analysis you require is usually performed by multidimensional gas chromatography analyzers.

The difference (using an automobile comparison) is like comparing a 1908 Oldsmobile with a 2011 Prius.

There is more involved than I can type in 5 minutes on this computer.

best wishes,

Rod
Hi I understand that these are relatively old machines, but thank you for all of your help and information!

You may be hearing from me again :D

Thanks
To those who had some input, Thanks for your info, after a few weeks research I have found the right chromatography equipment! :D

Thank you all for your help!

Your username is akribis2 and the link you keep posting is to a used instrument supplier at akribis.co.uk.

thats kind of weird..
Really its weird to have someone in an industry looking for information on equipment he sells?

How peculiar

Maestro, trim the march! (с)
What problem is so great a panic that requires any help?
Sit down, please, and planted what symptoms you suffer... 8)

PS .
The ability of the device to perform tasks depends primarily on its technical condition and the correctness of the sample preparation. Here, as in motor racing - the most important detail of car-strip between the handlebars and seat. (c)
