NPD

Does anyone out there have experience with NPD detectors? I'm running an organophosporus pesticide standard on an application specific column using NPD detection but I can't eliminate the peak tailing. I've done all the usual stuff, re-seating the column, trimming the column, changing the flow rate, injector temp, injector type, oven program, solvent type........... but nothing seems to make any difference. If I run on a GCMS system there's no tailing at all - is peak tailing a characteristic of NPDs; do I just have to put up with it?

Thanks for your help.
wheeltops,

Tailing is more of an issue with NPD's. Done right, though, I have seen really good chromatography. My best suggestion is for you to talk to DET (det-gc.com) in California (Dr. Patterson.) He is an expert on these detectors and he will have lots of advice for you I am sure.

Best regards,

AICMM
Thanks for the information I'll buzz along a mail - I could really use an effective guru just now.
