Hi,
This simple question is actually complicated.
1 Varian has sold Galaxie (Agilent ows some of part of ex varian and Bruker other.)
2 Galaxie can control (some) Varian hardware.
2 Other software exist that can control some Varian hardware.
3 Galaxie can control some other hardware.
4 Agilent bought Varian some years ago and Galaxie is discontinued or will soon be discontinued from Agilent.
The faith of Saturn to control GC-MS is unknow for me. Hope it helps.

Csaba, I appreciate your response. I'm pretty new to this forum. Maybe, I did not phrase my question properly. I have worked with Agilent GCs that make use of chemstation softwares. Currently, I have been asked to come and train some personnel on how to calibrate/perform analysis with the Micro GC Varian CP 4900. I have never even seen this type of GC before. So I wanted to know if anyone has used this type before, the software and the basic difference and similarity between this Varian GC and the agilent GC.
Many thanks in advance.
BEE.

I have used both Chemstation and Galaxie, and although the principles of setting up a method e.g. flow rates, temperatures are the same for both (and for every other GC setup) the actual use of the software - in terms of which settings are on which screen, in what order do you need to do things - are different enough that it took me several days of intensive work, after I had been trained by the local Varian agents, to become fluent with Galaxie.
Forgive me for saying so, but it stikes me as strange that you are going to be training people to do something that you do not know how to do yourself.

Peter,
Thanks. It does happen at times that if u have a generic knowledge, then specifics might not be too difficult to venture into with some real hard work. Well, am thinking if u can offer me some more help........we can exchange e-mail addresses if that is ok with u.

Hello,
Galaxie controls the CP-4900, but not Agilent's softwares. I don't think Agilent has Micro-GCs. Now their bought Varian, they have the CP-4900 and the 490 Micro-GC serie. All are controlled by Galaxie.
Agilent bought Varian only last year (end 2010), even if it has been announced end 2009.
If you need training, you should ask Agilent people for a training, or for help, but you can refer to the different manuals as the Installation guide and the driver manual, delivered with Galaxie and the driver.
Hope fully that helps.

Dear Aaudouar,
I also have the same problem and i contecting to agilent but the agilent is communicating that the person only and only come when we give the AMC of the Instruments . they sold the GC division to bruker and now u may think that what is the infrastructure of bruker at present in the field of GC. In My Openion Varian engeeneer's are not ready to receive or pick the phone if u got some problem in instruments or u want some clarification about the hardware or software.
I also worked on this software in my previous company with Jassco instruments on HPLC and the same software is at present in GC.
So for the BEE : Just learn on self basis the companies are only to sold the products not for the support.

Hello,
I need to add some precision. Actually, Agilent's software DO control the (old)Varian Micro-GCs. Agilent have Micro-GCs.
Varian sold only GCs to Brucker (meaning the 450-GC and 430-GC), not Micro-GCs. Agilent bought Varian's Micro-GCs.
So, regarding tech support of Micro-GCs, BEE won't have any problem to find someone at Agilent to help him (as there is no more Varian people).
Regards

Dear aaudouar,
You are right. I have the GC of Varion Model 450GC and frankly i am discussing about this GC. Other wise there is no issues about the help from agilent side.
With thanks
