VCR fittings

Dear all,

In a GC system, the manual requires that VCR fittings must be used. I understand that it must be clean and tight, but do not know what VCR stands for. Anyone know that?

I have no idea what "VCR" stands for, but here's what they are:

Maybe contact Swagelok and ask if anyone there knows where that particular TLA came from.

Variable Compression Ratio fittings are used when a connection of two pipes or tubes receive thermal changes in use. Metal compression fittings (Swagelok) usually are not replaceable if they leak but the tube must be trimmed and a new fitting installed.

The VCR fitting uses a replaceable metal gasket to seal between two pipe or tube ends, no rubber or plastic seal is used, even to seal heated vapors. VCR is a trademark of the Swagelok company.
