Hi folks I did a quick search on this topic and didn't see anything that matched my problem so I am hoping someone can help me. We just cleaned the ion source on our HP 5973 MS which is connected to a 6890 GC. When we restarted Chemstation it fails to intitialize the GC all the way (it starts the process and I can see the GC is receiving signal from the computer and the computer is getting current setting info from the GC) but I get a message the says "problem accessing the file c:\HPCHEM\1\5973\.U. In the logbook it says error code = 8271. I e-mailed agilent and haven't gotten any response yet. Any help would be most appreciated. Thanks.

It sounds like a missing file, like a tune file ( a .U file) under that address ( c:\HPCHEM\1\5973\.U). Go under the c:\HPCHEM\1\5973 and see what tune files you do or do not have. That or the files could be corrupted and you just need to pull one off the installation disk.
If the software cannot find one it probably just flips then shuts down.
Hope this helps.

ahay,
It sort of sounds like your software has lost track of its root directory but I am on a limb with this. If you search you computer, can you find the Atune.U file or the Stune.u file?
Best regards,
AICMM

I think that I had this error once. Try loading a different tune file or manually tuning.

If the original tune file is corrupt, you can go into the config. editor and just click through all the screens. Once it updates the config. file, the tune file should be usable again. In some rare instances you may need to create a 2nd instrument in config for it to work.
