Can ECD be capped when only MSD in use

Hi, all,

I have an agilent 5975C with MSD (EI and CI) and ECD, I'm wondering if I can cap the ECD when I'm using MSD only for a pretty long time? I don't want the column connected to ECD undergo the oven temperature all the time.

Thank you for any comment :D
If by cap you mean closing the column connection with a nut and blank ferrule then yes, you can. Leave the ECD makeup flowing (you can probably reduce the flow rate a bit) to keep atmospheric contaminants out. Reducing the temperature might prolong foil life by a little bit.

Thank you very much, Peter. I'll remove the column and cap the injector and ECD.
