Agilent 1100 autosampler problems

We have an Agilent 1100 series LCMS with a manual inject. Recently, we have tried to incorporate an autosampler into the system. Chemstation recognizes the autosampler and I am able to set up for an injection. However, before the injection occurs the system shuts down. The autosampler is ok because we have checked it on a second instrament we have. I think there is something in the software programed to default to the manual injection but I haven't been able to find it. Any ideas?

This might be a long shot, but...... What CDS are you using ? Is it ChemStation ? Is it ChemStation Revision B.04.02 or .03 ? Did you configure it to use the new RC.NET drivers and new layout ? If so, you now select "injection type" from the Instrument menu as part of the method (It provides you with a choice of Manual Injection or your A/S). This shows up even if you do not have an A/S or Manual Injector configured and you must select one. If the original method was configured for manual injection and you did not change this, then a problem will result.

Does the second HPLC which works with autosampler have the same version of Chemstation?
There might be Chemstation - autosampler firmware version incompatibility. You might need to upgrade or downgrade the firmware in autosampler to match the Chemstation version. It was needed on our instrument with a change of MS software version from A.09 to A.10.

Thanks for the tips. We have chemstation rev. A.08.03 software. I believe the firmware for the autosampler is compatable with the firmware for the 1100 instrament. We have a manual injection button that can be checked. This isn't checked when I try to use the A/S. I haven't configured the A/S to the instrament. I thought if chemstation recognized the A/S this may not be necessary.

Firmware of the autosampler module needs to be close match to the other modules used in the instrument, that's important. You can get the firmware revision number from the ChemStation software readily.
Updating, or lowering, the firmware in the module is possible for the computer-savvy user, downloads from Agilent. I'm pretty low on computer-knowledge, and was able to do that.
