Hi,
Does anyone have a method for detecting Zinc acetate in a liquid?

If there are no other zinc compounds present, I would do it spectroscopically (ICP or AA) or spectrophotometrically with a complexing reagent. A Google search on "zinc determination" turns up lots of possibilities.

Here are few HPLC methods on determination of Zinc ion in mixtures and pharmaceutical formulation. Method employs mixed-mode column in combinations with ESLD as detection technique:

Also, keep in mind that if that liquid is water, zink acetate will be present as ion in solution. If you have some other zink salt that forms uncomplexed ions, speciation of the zink acetate may not be possible.

Hi,
Does anyone have a method for detecting Zinc acetate in a liquid?
in our business, the level of analyte and the matrix are everything !!!
If there is 2% Zn in an aqueous matrix, perhaps titration with standardized EDTA to Eriochrome Black T indicator would work. Low levels might require ion chromatography, ICP.

Thanks for all replies, the reason for asking this is is due to the fact that the Pharmaceutical liquid is a 1% Pramixine HCL and 0.1% Zinc Acetate as the actives. We are running the HPLC method for the Pramoxine HCL and as for the zinc acetate i am doing the titrations.I am trying to sort of kill the two birds in one method so to speak. I do notice a peak at the 2 min mark which i presume is the Zinc (unconfirmed) and then for the PHCL we already know it peaks at the 5 min mark validated etc. So i was just curious if anyone had a similar type situation where this person had run a project with similar type actives. I dont have AA so that method is out .

in the method I posted we had exactly he same task - quantitate API and zinc in the mixture. YOu need to have ELSD/Corona to monitor Zn and you need cation-exchange functionality on the column to provide retention. 2 minutes is not retention and anything in your formulation will interfere with the determination of zinc.
With our mixed-mode approach you can quantitate both organic and inorganic molecules (counter-ions):
http://www.sielc.com/application_032.html
Your drug will retain by RP and cation-exchange mechanisms and zinc is retained by cation-exchange mechanism.
