Hi all,
Can anyone recommend me any HPLC column with "octadecylsilyl vinyl polymer " packing material ? In the ASSAY part of azithromycin (BP),its stationary phase says "octadecylsilyl vinyl polymer for chromatography R".
PS: in the azithromycin ,ASSAY and Related Substance use different chromatrophy method, and their column packing material are also different. Is it necessary?

If you mean Reversed Phase columns based on Polymer matrix in a given method from the BP you have several different brands on the market:
Hamilton PRP-1 4,1mmIDx15cm based on PS-DVB (100A pore size)
PolymerLabs PLRP-S 4,6mmIDx15cm based on PS-DVB (PL belongs now to Agilent) (100A pore size)
Tosoh TSKgel OD-2PW 4,6mmIDx15cm based on Polymethacrylate (125A pore size)
If ACN is mentioned in the method with high concentration, around 90%, it is probably the PRP-1 column.
Reasons for these polymer based RP columns are
you can operate them at high pH
you get less or even no tailing with very basic compounds.
From Showa Denko is also available the Asahipak ODP-40 column, but this has a larger pore volume of 250A.
Hope that helps. Good luck.

Two columns are recommended for azithromycin in this datadase:

Rrelated substances: XTerra MS C18
Assay: Asahipak ODP-50
