Hi, Do anyone have some information/method for detecting formic acid with GC-FID? Is it possible or does it make trouble. Thanks

I'd suggest ion chromatography.

Formic acid has very little response indeed on a flame ionisation detector. In fact some people used to add it to the carrier gas to prevent adsorption of other acids which they were analyzing (I would NOT attempt this procedure and am NOT advocating it-there could be SAFETY ISSUES amongst other things).

use GC/MS...it works great!!!!!!!

Marita,

The other thought is to used a TCD detector unless you are after trace level amounts.
