Dear all,

Could anybody tell me a company/supplier that offers good value for money second hand GC-MS equipment?
Is it a good idea?
What would you suggest if I want to get a relatively inexpensive GC-MS equipment?

Regards

Just be aware that some older equipment will be out of factory support. And may work fine until something breaks and there are no parts available (legacy computers are readily available). You may need to use third-party service.

That said: in my lab we regularly use Agilent GCMS 5972A, Agilent 5890 GCs, Agilent 1050 HPLCs, all of which are out of factory support.

Do a Google search on “used GCM”. A number of companies will be listed: GenTech Scientific, Gizzly Analytical, Alpha Omega Technology, Inc., and several more. There are companies like these all over the world. Most have instruments with warranties. Many will support the instruments even after the manufactures no long will. I recommend that you get a company in your home country. :)

Buy a refurbished instrument like you would a new one. Get a use history and try to talk to the previous owner. That is not always possible because the previous owner may be out of business. Some instrument manufacturers require a software license transfer when you buy a previously owned instrument. :?:

Sometimes Full-Spectrum Analytics will sell used equipment -- and I believe they may provide warranty coverage.
