I've been trying boot up a Perkin Elmer Auto XL GCMS (circa 2002 I think?)the systems running Turbomass. I'm getting and error on the Turbomass software start up "cannot connect to transputer" and the connection fails.

I've got a set of manuals for the GC but I don't seem to have one with info on setting the system up with Turbomass mass spectrometer. Do any hard-core Perkin Elmers know if they are still avalible?

first thing is this an existing gcms or is it one just being set up?

if this is an existing setup I would remove the top cover from the MS, when it is first powered on there should be two led's showing '00'

when the software tries to connect to the MS these should change over to 'FF' (if I rememeber) and then go back to '00' if they do not change I would check the tdat card card in the pc and its settings. If they change but then do not revert back to '00' then I would suspect the main pcb in the MS.

I am based in the UK and cover the whole of UK, and Europe when needed for support of turbomass / agilent gcms / thermo gcms:lcms

hopefully it is something in the software / bios that needs changing rather than a replacement part

The system is an existing setup.

I removed the cover as suggested and then just tried rebooting the MS, without doing anything more the system (don't know if mybe a loose wire or board) booted aftet that !! ??
I checked and the led's always stayed at "0" & "0" but I seem to have control now from the Turbomass software so hopefully that's good news.

The original owner has found the MS manual so I should be OK for that.

The vacuum may have a bit of leak as it looks a bit off so I'll need to check what is the normal range when I get the manual.
