Temperature Zone Fault (5890 Series II) question

Hello everyone...

I'm still working on this one 5890 Series II...I got this error:

FAULT: DET A TEMP RDG

I took the cover off of the ECD and saw that if the two wires were separated, then this error went away:

By the way...do everyone else's wires look like this?

So after this error went away, midway through my solvent blank, I get this:

Checking back in my maintenance log, last time I had a detector error like my initial error, I changed the oven sensor and the instrument was fine.

I know these heated zones are connected - what do you suggest I look at first to remedy this issue? Should I just go ahead and change the oven sensor?

NOTE: When I get this error, the oven fan turns off, and all the heated zones start to cool down.

Thanks in advance,
John

Chemwipe,

Breaking my own rule here...

Don't mess with the oven sensor yet. The oven shuts off because an ECD has a thermal runaway protection circuit to prevent overheating the Ni63 source and putting radioactive Ni all over your lab. What you have is a dead detector heater RTD. You can replace just the part you have photo of and the instrument should come right back to life.
