ECD output - basic question

The ECD we have is giving large fluctuations in its output when running a sample and before even injecting the sample. Is this normal?

Is this happening only during the runs, blank runs or even at standby? Try to check makeup gas line for any crack. enter the temperature of the oven by few degrees lower then actual temperature to start the fan. Does output change?

I noticed this today while the machine was on standby for a run and during the run. The signal output fluctuated by over 10,000. Have a Thermo Trace GC. I have never really used the detector before, so I really do not know what is normal. The starting temp is pretty low - 50C. Will check for leaks though. Thanks for the info.

the first is to check if the fan is causing the fluctuations, like suggested. that would indicate a leak.

then... using an EPC injection? how old is it? the valves may be getting stuck causing variations in the flow.

The baseline was pretty high also so we did a clean out and things seemed to stabilise after that. Thanks for the suggestions I am sure they will come in useful very soon. This equipment is somewhat problematic.
