Experience with replacement of Waters 2475 lamp?

Hello,

Came in this morning to the 'Lamp Won't Ignite' error message of death on my Waters 2475. It's not a huge surprise; the lamp has given 3 years of trouble-free service.

I almost choked when I learned of the price on the Waters 'Lamp PM Kit', (WAT201000131). Kind of between funding sources right now and squeezing every penny.

I have noted that this Waters part has a lot of hardware beyond just the lamp. My instrumental support guy and I are wondering if there's a place where we could just buy the lamp. He has a reliable source for Shimadzu lamps, and it looks like the lamp in the Waters 2475 is a standard sort of lamp.

Do you have any experience with this issue? Is it a good idea to buy the Waters PM kit for the 2475 lamp? Or is there a way around it? Could you just replace the lamp itself? Would lamp alignment issues then be a serious issue?

Thanks in advanced for any experienced input,

Dave

Hello,
You can get a Xenon lamp from WWW.BULBTRONICS.com, Same lamp as for the 474 FL DET.
BUT.....this lamp [ the 474 lamp ] has slightly longer external connectors, which will need something to insulate them from the case.
Center the lamp as well as you can. I have done this many times with success. The lamp by itself is under $400.00

The lamp needs to be align for optimum preformance and it usually isn't a field alignment task.

Thank you Bull, that's very likely what it is, but I have done this in the past several times with no problems.
Thanks again, and I will try that.
