Dear Friends,

I am looking for a good reference on the TLC analysis of Carbohydrates. Specifically I would like to improve the separation and detection of Glucose, Fructose and Inositol (all in food samples). Currently the system in use is propanol/H2O /AcOEt 7:2:1 with H3BO3 Methyl red developing agent in NaOH. There is not enough separation (Rfs very similar), and the developing agent does not work very well.

If you have experience on this specific problem I would like to hear your comments. Also, I would appreciate any information on a literature reference on the subject.

Thanks,

Benjamin

Enclosed is a reference for the seperation of carbohydrates sucrose, glucose, and fructose. Inositol was not tried, but the seperation should work with the same procedure. First, the TLC plates are Macherey-Nagel highly specilized NANO-Sil NH2/UV TLC plates designed for seperation of vitamins, sugars and pesticides. The mobile phase is Acetonitrile / water 50:18 (v/v). If you go to the link you can see the seperation.

We have over 2000 applications in our data base for TLC/GC/HPLC seperation.

Hope this helps you.
Steve,

Thanks very much for the link and information. I will pass it to those directly interested.
