how to add the second GC into the chemistation

Hey guys, we have one chemistation and want to control two GCs. Now we have this problem: Only one GC(instrument 1) shows up. Another GC(instrument 2) cannot show up. No shortcut at all. We use 5890 SERIES II GC-FID. does anyone have any suggestions? I will be most grateful! Thanks.

You will need a licence number for the second GC, then you can add it. I suggest that you contact Agilent on how to obtain a second licence number.

OK, you've added the second license. Did you go into Configuration Editor and add Instrument 2?

If you did that, and all you need is the desktop shortcut, find the .exe file using My Computer or Explorer, and just make a shortcut. Is the listing there under, start, programs, Chemstations?

the main problem is that we cannot find it in the listing under start, programs,chemstation even though we used configuration editor and added instrument 2. Thanks for any suggestions!!

If you did that, and all you need is the desktop shortcut, find the .exe file using My Computer or Explorer, and just make a shortcut. Is the listing there under, start, programs, Chemstations?

Right click on the Instrument 1 shortcut icon, go to properties. The path for the shortcut should be readily found. I'm not at work now, but write that down, then look for such using My Computer or Explorer.

It will be in HPCHEM, maybe under CORE, then under GC (if I remember correctly) and end with 1\a.exe or 1.exe for online and offline(or something similar, can't remember) for Instrument 1. So should be similar, like 2\a.exe or 2.exe (or something similar) for Instrument 2. If you can post a screen capture of your Instrument 2 under Configuration, that might help me to help you.

I've done this before, and it's straightforward. I don't believe you'll need to dig out the ChemStation CD (but could be wrong).

Not sure if this will work in your Chemstation version.

Insert the Chemstation CD and run setup.exe. The setup program will ask if you want to update the software. Go for it. Then, add a new instrument and configure it properly.

I have had the same problem running Chemstation A.10.01 in WinXP. If you have your desktop icon for GC1 you can copy and paste it and in the new copy everything that's 1 change to 2. Then go to win.ini and copy the GC1 info and make a GC2 copy with the new path information. Not sure if there's anything else to change but this worked for me and is stable.

We copy GC1 and rename as GC2. However, the new problem comes up. When i edit the method, i cannot change the injector B temperature. The error info is "Injector B temperature cannot be changed since Oven Tracking is on". I cannot find the Oven Tracking Box in the method. So i tried to use GC keyboard, however, each time i click "yellow button and Oven Track button", this info appears: INJ B NOT PROG INLET
Any thoughts? We use GC5890 SERIES II GC-FID.

Do you think you control the GC is the GC you want to control? Maybe
You think you control the GC1 but actually you control the GC2 (and the GC2 do not have an on-column inlet.)

i just manually set up the injector temp by using GC keyboard. This works for me since the injector temp is constant based on the method i use.

No. We can control both GC and separately. No interference. You can run both GCs at the same time or you can run just one GC.

Have you tried loading the DEFCG.M method? Start with that and try building your method from there. Hope that helps.
