Hi there, if I have positive esi of imidazole nitrate, is it possible to determine structure using only ms without nmr or ir.

Thanks
Tina.

Hi Tina.

If you have only ESI, my opinion is that you can based your 'structure determination from your samples' versus a standard.

Get the fragmentation MS/MS data; and compared them. Most of the MS software nowadays can give you a mass fragmentation pattern matching ie attaching a structure of your target compound and the software will match the corresponding m/z fragments to the structure of your compounds.

This is one of the possibilty for you to 'confirm your compound structure' - otherwise, IR and NMR data is much needed especially NMR data for structure elucidation works ~

Hope this helps ~
