ATD

I am about to start doing some development work using an ATD instrument coupled to a GC/MS. It is very much a case of finding things to do on it, I have a few ideas and a plan of action but I was wondering if anybody uses ATD/TD for anything other than atmospheric monitoring. Any suggestions would be welcomed.

gcguy,

Long ago in a previous life I worked at a facility that was doing wellbore monitoring using ATD. Air samples from around a waste site were pumped out of wells onto ATD tubes and analyzed for contaminants. The ground was porous enough that you would see changes in concentrations with barometric changes. Essentially the mesa was breathing...

You could also look at reaction vessel headspace over time, especially something like fermentation vats.

Best regards.

ATD is also used for direct desorption of VOCs from materials ( for instance the VDA 278 method used in the automotive business) or in forensics http://www.gerstel.com/pdf/solution_07_22_23.pdf.

Thanks for the replies so far. I had thought about reactor headspace and even the possibility of looking at soil analysis by sticking some directly into an ATD tube.
Really any ideas are worth suggesting, I will try anything once!!

I will feedback anything interesting that I have tried later in the year.

Soil analysis? Maybe you can have a look at the paper below (last pages).

Just for my curiosity which TD instrument do you have?

It is a Turbomatrix from Perkin Elmer.
