Has anyone ever had this happen to them right after the tray puts the sample vial in the turret?

and then you click retry...

I did a search on Google for "tray malfunction" and got nothing useful.

The instrument is an HP5890 and the tray is a 18596B.

Any ideas? It's really annoying seeing that first screen as soon as you walk into the lab in the morning.

Thanks,

John

Did it actually get the vial into the turret?

I have seen this several times where the arm actually dropped the vial or was not able to pick up the vial from the tray.

Yes, it did. Strange. I get four flashes on the controller box also.

EDIT: I just found this:

Tray Errors
4 Single Flashes: Radial Axis Error

But if this was a real issue, it wouldn't work on the retry...right?

Yeah, I just saw that...but nothing is obstructing the arm, it's not grinding gears or anything.

I came in this morning to see that Tray Malfuntion dialog box (which happened 30 minutes after I left last night).

Started another run this morning, and it's gone through 4 injections so far without an error.

Seems to be inconsistent.

I'll try troubleshooting the tray when I get a chance. I have way too many samples to run to have one instrument down while I'm here, though.

Thanks, Will!

John

The only other thing I could suggest is the belt below the arm could be worn and slipping. That issue was very inconsistent and problematic, causing all sorts of issues with the arm. We also had multiple samples to run, it was very
very annoying. Such as it is though, the "beauty" of instrumentation is spending half of your time trying to figure out what in the world is going on.

Good luck.

chemwipe,

I can recommend someone who fixes trays and towers. Very reasonable.

Best regards.
