Retention Time drift

Hi,

I am running 2 GC using molecular sieve 13X column to separate and detect hydrogen, on another GC, I am using Haysep Q column for backflush and Haysep N column for separation and detection for CO2.

I always experience a drift in retention time. Whenever the retention drift to an earlier time, it is always accompany with a drop in retention time. Sometimes the peak will drift back to a later time, and the area will increase. It happen to both GC.

Does anyone have any experience in this kind of analysis? Does gas analysis is less stable in terms of area and retention time compare to liquid sample for GC?

Thank you
