how to understand pore size, surface area and carbon load?

Hi, everyone!
Could you tell me how to understand pore size, surface area and carbon load of a HPLC column and their effection to chromatographic peak? For example: retention, peak shape and so on.

Entire books have been written to that end. I would recommend getting a copy of Uwe Neue's HPLC Columns: Theory, Technology, and Practice. Here's a link to the information on Amazon:
